If the subject is made to sit by a window in a posture in which sunlight falls only partially on the face, then the photograph generally ends up looking wonderful. The remaining part of the face can be lighted up by using something reflective like a white piece of sheet or board. However, portrait photography is best done in studios as lighting can be regulated there.

Another important thing that you must keep in mind is that the more comfortable a subject is during the photography session, higher the chances are of getting an ideal portrait photograph. If the subject doesn’t feel at ease while being clicked and doesn’t pose naturally, then even the best camera and lighting methods will fail to do justice to the portrait.
