ANZAC Square,located in Brisbane’s city centre, is not just a peaceful place for people to enjoy there lunch in the mist of a hectic day. There is great history attached to the square and it is a place of honour for Australian soldiers. In 1930 the Shrine of Remembrance was built with an eternal flame to honour those who died in World War I. There is also a Shrine of Memories located in the tunnel behind the square. This shrine is dedicated to the soldiers of World War II and houses homemade mosaic and soils from World War II cemeteries, as well as plaques and honour rolls.

Brisbane City Hall is located in King George Square. City Hall was opened in 1930 and has a 92 metre clocktower upon its top. When taking a tour you will be taken to the top of this tower where you can enjoy one of the best views in the city. King George Square also is home to the city’s Christmas tree during the holiday season.

The Museum of Brisbane, also known as MoB, is located on the ground floor of City Hall. Here you will find exhibits focused around the history of the Brisbane population. Visual arts, history and craft are all incorporated into each of the exhibits. You can also find online and text based resources in the exhibits Discovery Room. The MoB also includes a shop that sells items from talented artists, writers and musicians from Brisbane.

St Johns Cathedral is a striking example of Gothic-Revival architecture was built in three stages, the first beginning in 1906. It has the only fully stone-vaulted ceiling in Australia as well as extensive woodcarvings by Queensland artists, fossiliferous marble 350 million years old and beautiful stained glass windows. Next to the cathedral is the Deanery, built in 1850 and formerly the residence of Queenslands first governor. Sir George Bowen. Tours are conducted daily.

Customs House, which was built in 1889, has since been restored. it was used as the city’s Customs House for a century but then port activities moved closer to the rivers mouth. Today it is part of the University of Queensland and includes an art gallery and brasserie.
